Training Description
While there is debate across disciplines regarding the ethics of using polygraph examinations and the reliability of results is frequently in question, polygraphs continue to be a commonly used treatment/monitoring tool for individuals on probation, parole, and in civil commitment programs. Understandably, participating in polygraph examinations tend to be anxiety provoking for the clients and often result in supervising agents and treatment providers questioning the appropriate response/intervention when clients show reactions. This 1.5 hour workshop is intended for professionals that currently use the polygraph as part of programming or are considering incorporating it into programming. The workshop will provide information regarding strategies to create a supportive polygraph environment, appropriate use of the tool, effective pre-test preparation, supportive post-test processing, and responding to client resistance.
Trainer Biography
Rhonda Meacham, LCSW, LSOTP, LSOE obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from Purdue University and went on to obtain her Master of Social Work degree from the University of Illinois’ Jane Addams College of Social Work. Ms. Meacham is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Sex Offender Treatment Provider, and Sex Offender Evaluator through the State of Illinois. She has more than sixteen years of experience in the field of sexual violence, specifically working with perpetrators of sexual abuse in various treatment settings that include community, residential, and detention. She has nine years of experience working with the Sexually Violent Persons population. Ms. Meacham’s career in sexual violence began in a residential facility for adolescent sex offenders where she was promoted several times, ultimately becoming the Assistant Residential Director. Upon earning her Social Work degree, she transitioned to community based care providing evaluations and individual and group treatment to adult sex offenders. Her career path then led her to work with Sexually Violent Persons providing individual and group therapy in both detention and community based settings. Ms. Meacham has been responsible for program management and clinical oversight of various programs and is currently Liberty Healthcare Corporation’s Clinical Coordinator for Illinois’ Sexually Violent Person’s Safety First Conditional Release Program. She provides clinical oversight and guidance to clinicians throughout the state, working collaboratively with conditional release agents to ensure community safety, while optimizing the treatment outcomes for the clientele. Ms. Meacham has served on the board of the IL Chapter of ATSA for 8 years, previously holding the offices of Vice-President and President.
